USA 1898 50c Sage Green Omaha/Trans-Mississippi Exhibition FU - Surprisingly seldom seen, and quite scarce, especially in sound grade! Back then 126 years ago this was a large sum. There were howls of global protest at the time, to this huge face value set. Only 530,000 of this value were ever printed, and many were later destroyed - the 1913 £2 Roo had 240,000 sold in this tiny country - for a very valid comparison! And THOSE are $6,000 used. A nice looking stamp, clean and fresh and free of all hinges and gook and gunk and thins and usual aging. Crisp and razor-sharp plate impression, as can be seen. These were printed on what was essentially coarse blotting paper and MOST have hinge thins over the past 126 years - NEVER peel a hinge off this series!
